Dade Native Plant Workshop

Enthusiastic folks who wish to learn how to identify South Florida's wild plants

April's meeting topic is Spring Wildflowers.  The Florida Wildflower Foundation defines “Florida native wildflower” as any flowering herbaceous species, or woody species with ornamental flowers, which grew wild within the state’s natural ecosystems in the 1560s when Florida’s first botanical records were created (click).  Wildflowers are sold, often by the seed, and it is assumed that the plant species has not been hybridized or altered since being harvested from the wild.  In general, plants considered to be wildflowers should be native to the region for which they are found or planted.

Please bring in at least 3 plants (with flowers or fruits hopefully), which needn't necessarily cover the topic.

The Native Plant Workshop is FREE, and meets at 7:00PM on the third tuesday of each and every month. We convene at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus's Landscape Technology Nursery in the northwest corner of the campus. Please park outside of the gate.
