Enthusiastic folks who wish to learn how to identify South Florida's wild plants
Happy New Year! January 17th's meeting will cover "Lawnweeds". Please bring in at least 3 plants, which needn't necessarily cover the topic.
The Native Plant Workshop is FREE, and meets at 7:00PM on the third tuesday of each and every month. We convene at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus's Landscape Technology Nurseryin the northwest corner of the campus. Please park outside of the gate. Hey folks, the unidentified lawnweed that reminded me of a "Scroph" which Lauren brought in came to me like a shot. It is Nama jamaicensis, in the Hydropyllaceae, a plant family with only two species found in FL. Nama is not native to Florida, and its common name is Jamaicanweed.
Note: An excellent website for South Florida Lawnweeds shared by John B.: http://www.plantbook.org/weedfinder.html
