17 October 2023 Dade Native Plant Workshop FIELD TRIP

Back by popular demand, we will be having a Fall fieldtrip for the Dade NPW. Steve will be unavailable, but Joe Montes de Oca has agreed to lead this trip.  Meeting time is 5:00PM.  Location of workshop field trip is under some powerlines near the intersection of SW 94th Avenue and Coral Way (SW 24th Street), northside of Coral Way, west side of Westchester Regional Library.  Park at the Westchester Regional Library located here.  This lot is full of remnant pine rockland and marl prairie wildflowers along with some common native lawn weeds and is a must see. We missed Steve but still managed to have a good time! Thanks to those who were able to make it and also Phil Busey for helping to lead the walk and teaching some important plant ID skills! A few highlights included Ruellia caroliniana var. heteromorpha (or ssp. succulenta?), Muhlenbergia in bloom, Buchnera floridiana, Flaveria linearis, a large field of Rhynchospora colorata and many other native sedges and grasses. This area merits further exploration! I've included a map below in case anyone wants to go on a plant foray :-)
