Aha, given your description I bet it is Lemon Bayrum (Pimenta racemosa) in the Myrtaceae (Myrtle family, also has Eucalyptus, Guava, and Stoppers, and Allspice is in the same genus). It is a good nectar plant for bees and some butterflies. It is generally columnar in growth, and can get 20' tall.
