Melanthera parvifolia, commonly called by some "Snow square stem" others know it as "Black Anthers" given the color of the male parts of the Florida, while some have given it the moniker of "Cat's tongue", since the leaves are very scabrous. Some treat this species as conspecific with M. nivea, however I believe it to be a distinct species. It can be distinguished from other Melantheras by its prostrate and ascending nature, which tend to be more erect. It's in the sunflower family (Asteraceae), and can be found in pinelands in much of Florida.
